Poverty, wealth and income: Nominal monthly gross incomes of households in Germany, 2006-2017

The nominal average gross monthly income of private households in Germany has constantly increased in the last nine years. For instance, the figures rose by 2.7 per cent to 3,584 euros from 2006 to 2007 alone. Between 2007 and 2009 incomes grew by 3.5 per cent, reaching a level of 3,711 euros. Between 2009 and 2010 there was an increase of only 1.3 per cent. Afterwards, gross monthly incomes picked up swiftly again, though: from 2010 to 2011 and between 2011 and 2012 the increase was 3 per cent. In 2017 the average gross monthly income of private households was 4,474 euros.

Further explanations

Gross household income: the gross income is worked out from the total incomes of all members of a household before taxes and social security contributions. These incomes include compensation of employees, corporate and investment income, and savings on rent through owner occupancy.
